Why Bother With A Real Estate Blog?

by Joe Manausa on October 9, 2008

Why do you visit a real estate blogIt seems that the whole purpose of a real estate blog is to create a conversational relationship between internet travelers and a real estate broker. The real estate broker seeks this to gain exposure for his or her name and brand while hoping to demonstrate a level of competence to the people that have occasion to view his or her site. The reader, on the other hand, is attracted to the real estate blog for a myriad of reasons.

Reasons To Visit A Real Estate Blog

I suspect that most people find an informative real estate blog through a process of looking for a house or home and actually ending up enjoying the content so much that they either continue to come back every day, or they subscribe to the real estate blog in order to have the updated content sent their way each time new information is posted. Three real estate blogs for which I provide content can be subscribed to from the following locations:

Reader Feedback Is The Fundamental Difference Between A Blog and a Web Site

Good blogs have two-way communication. The blogger starts the conversation in a certain direction, then the readers chime in. Some times, the readers and the blogger are thinking in parallel and the conversation fizzles out fairly quickly. But other times, when readers and the blogger are of different mind sets, the conversation can go viral (more and more people are drawn into the discussion/debate/conversation). Some of the greatest blog posts on the internet have thousands of comments, with the readers doing the “Lions Share” of the communication. The blogger is just there to keep it clean and in line with the intent of the initial blog.

When A Blog Becomes A Forum

One unfortunate side effect that we experience from time to time is when a reader (or a blogger) gets out of line and tries to turn the discussion into a personal assault on somebody else. Currently, there is a healthy “cat fight” at the Tallahassee Real Estate Blog where a reader turns some great feedback into a flame on the blogger (me, so yes I am biased …. ). You see, this reader actually could have a great conversation going because he is obviously very educated and brings an interesting insight into the discussion. But whenever his logic breaks down, he leans on his extensive vocabulary to try to intimidate or crush the other readers and the blogger. It is a shame because it diminishes the good points that he is trying to make.

Why Bother With A Real Estate Blog

Real Estate Blog PictureFind a good real estate blog discussion and jump right in. If you find yourself getting “too fired up,” make sure you keep yourself on point in the discussion. Don’t generalize the blogger or another reader by attacking them, rather attack the issue in debate. And don’t try to bring your own issue to the blog, it was written about a certain point (if you want to rant on your own point, start your own blog, as many people will come and interact with you as well).

But while on the real estate blog, stay on point. Get off of your soapbox! Nobody wants to hear you whine, but a contradicting opinion brings more to the conversation than merely an “I agree.” Disagreements are great, personal attacks are trite and ruin a good thing.

Nice. I run my own blog too. Well actually it is a part of my business so most of the ideas and posts are about my RE agents work. But still I visit lot´s of other peoples blogs to get some insight and useful info. But I always prefer a blog to a web site. The wealth of knowledge some comments can bring. And the more opinions the better. But on to the topic of this site. I find my blog to be one of the best business investments I made. Not only people get to know me and see what I do, they also tend to prefer me, after getting to know me, to my competition. And that is definitely good for business. So here you have one more reason for a good RE blog.

You can moderate the replies. The small people that just have to voice their superior intelligence are funny because they tend to trip on their own laces.
