Last week Foster City California had 33 single family houses for sale and saw none go into escrow.  This number of listings is a reduction from recent weeks, but the number of days it’s taking to sell a home or DOM (days on market) has increased to 107.  The Average Priced house was $1,069,159.  The least expensive house for sale was $798,000 and the most expensive house was $1,550,000.  Interesting enough, the most expensive house is also a Short Sale.  There are only 3 short sales in all of Foster City right now.  But wait, there will likely be more later this year if that rocks your boat and will get you out to buy.

I’m often asked if Boise bank-owned homes or Boise short sales are better deals? While it can depend, and I’ve seen it go both ways, most often bank-owned homes are the better deal. As some evidence for this, I pulled 11 Boise bank-owned homes that have sold since 8/11/09 and researched their marketing history.  All 11 of these Boise REO’s attempted to complete a short sale prior to becoming bank-owned. September 1.  That’s just crazy. So I really thought that I was back in the blogging groove, but no.  I just can’t seem to sit down long enough to get ‘er done. Here’s a bit of what’s going on in our lives and in my addled head… Tomorrow is Isaac’s birthday.  I finally decided over the weekend what we are going to do about it. I really, really REALLY don’t like throwing kids birthday parties.   So imagine my horror when Isaac told me a few weeks ago that “on my birthday we’ll have a Thomas cake and lots of people will sing to me”.  oh.

Stocks are lower, but off overnight lows.  There wasn’t any one factor to the overnight moves.  The news is rife with stories of how badly equities perform in September.  It was reported yesterday that the Chinese government sent a message to 6 world banks that deal in OTC derivatives claiming the right to default on contracts with them.  The government denied these stories, but I wonder if this pressured crude and equities yesterday.  Overnight, Chinese stocks were slightly higher, and the economic news was a mixed bas.  Today at 9 AM we get the July pending home sales (forecast +1.5%).
