Homebuyers signed more sales contracts in August than in any month this year, boosted by the looming expiration of a homebuyers’ tax credit, according to an industry report released Thursday. The August Pending Home Sales Index from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) surged 6.4%, the seventh straight month-over-month improvement in the indicator. The increase far exceeded economists’ expectations — a panel of analysts surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a 1% rise. Pending home sales rose 3.2% in July.

Knowing there are criminals waiting to feed on your fear and vulnerability makes the situation even more worrisome. The latest credit industry polls show that on average American’s are 130% in debt. That means that 130% of their monthly income goes to debt or debt reduction. We are not suggesting you ignore your credit card or car payments, but if your crystal ball shows that your war chest is irreplaceable over the next 3 to 6 months; it’s time to consider an alternative approach (i.e. preparation for bankruptcy, or foreclosure) and stretch the dollars you do have in the interim to cover Shelter, Electricity, and Food.

Burns More troubled homeowners will do short sales as the Obama administration pushes a previously announced incentive plan, says the latest newsletter of John Burns Real Estate Consulting in Irvine. Back in May, the U.S. Treasury said if borrowers met the minimum requirements for the Making Home Affordable plan but didn’t get a mod or couldn’t sustain payments under a trial period then they could get a $1,500 incentive payment to pay moving expenses after doing a short sale or died-in-lieu.

RISMEDIA, October 2, 2009—(MCT)—Joseph Licari and Danielle Block had a simple goal when they started house-hunting. “We were looking for a bargain,” said Licari, a civil engineer. “And the bargains were in bank-owned and foreclosed homes.” They recently bought one of those properties, a small Cape Cod on a leafy street in New Milford, N.J., for $257,000, about 15% below its market value, based on its assessment and the prices of similar properties nearby. Like Licari and Block, many buyers who hope to get a steal, or at least a deal, look at homes being sold by lenders who took possession after a foreclosure.
